local info...Information on lodging, dining, shopping & misc. in the Islamorada area.
lodgingHampton Inn Both the hotel and the restaurant are good and predictable. Located just across the street is Papa Joe’s restaurant. It has always been a local landmark and has great local dishes. The Islander Hawks Cay Resort They also have a Dolphin training facility there. So you may arrange for you and your family to swim with the Dolphins. Everyone that I have spoken has definitely enjoyed the experience. Kids programs are a strong suit here, so you can bring them feeling confidant
that they’ll have plenty to do. |

Some other fun stuff...
Theater of the Sea is a fun place to spend a few hours watching or even participating in a dolphin show. You can see many of the different types of marine life that exist in the Keys and some that don't. You may even be able to swim with the dolphins, if you get the chance; it's an opportunity you shouldn't pass up. 664-2431. Robbie's Marina and Restaurant, this is an interesting place to stop by and check out tarpon that sometimes number in the hundreds, which live under Robbie's dock. The average tarpon that hangs around here is probably seventy pounds. You can buy a small bucket full of bait to feed these fish right out of your hand. Be careful, they move very fast and will come halfway out of the water to take food from your hand! 664-9814. John Pennekamp, Coral Reef State Park, a beautiful full service, park and campground. This is also one of the most popular dive destinations in the world. They run snorkel and scuba dive charters here as well. You may also rent a kayak or participate in an eco-tour. Located in Key Largo around mile marker 102. 305-451-1621. Tackle shops... Bud N' Mary's Marina, this is one of the oldest and most complete marinas around. Get there by boat or car. You can get all of your bait and gas needs as well as lunch and gas. If you are looking for an offshore charter, this is one of the best places to find an experienced Captain. 664-2461. Links... |

fishing methods...As I stated in my bio, I prefer to site fish in shallow water. I think it
is by far the most exciting way to catch almost any type of that we may target.
However, we must revisit the flexibility issue.

Fly shops...Florida Keys Outfitters is really the only fly shop you need be concerned with. Sandy and Sue Moret are the owner operators here. You will get the friendliest and most knowledgeable service and attention. They carry all the major brands of fly rods and reels with all the accessories to support them. They also carry a full line of clothing and footwear, such as Columbia and Patagonia. If you need a good pair of sunglasses or a hat, you will find an array of choices to select from. Sandy and Sue also have an art gallery in their shop. Many well-known artists are represented here. There are plenty of things to see from watercolors to oils and sculpture. If you need some casting instruction, Florida Keys Outfitters is also the
home of Florida Keys Fly Fishing School. Sandy is a master fly-fisherman and
caster. You may choose to attend one of their weekend casting/fishing schools
and then do some fishing to test your new skills and knowledge. This is the
best, most comprehensive school that I know of. They are located at mile marker
81.9, bayside in Islamorada. 305-664-2543. You can also visit them on the web
